Our client, a large Manufacturing business based in Plymouth are looking for an Environmental Manager to oversee the environmental performance of the organisation and to develop, implement and monitor all environmental strategies that will promote sustainable development within the Company.

Main duties

* Implementing environmental policies and practices

* Devising strategies to meet targets and to encourage best practice

* Devising the best tools and systems to monitor performance and to implement strategies

* Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation

* Assessing, analysing and collating environmental performance data and reporting information to internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies

* Confirming that materials, ingredients and so on are ethically or environmentally sourced

* Managing environmental strategy budgets (assisting Group Head of SHE)

* Liaising with internal staff including senior managers and directors

* Acting as an expert for environmental issues within the organisation

* Providing environmental training structure to staff at all levels

* Writing plans and reports

* Keeping up to date with relevant changes in environmental legislation and initiatives including international legislation where applicable

* Producing educational or information resources for internal staff, clients or the general public

* Liaising with regulatory bodies such as the Environment Agency/ local authority/ MCA

* KPI’s to be agreed during the planning and implementation of programmed strategies

Qualifications & Competencies

* A degree or higher national diploma (HND), degree or IOSH Diploma in Environmental management or an environment-related subject which includes but is not limited to; environmental sciences/management, biosciences, applied science’.

* A chartered member of IEMA

* Demonstrable experience preforming in a similar role, ideally within manufacturing, industry or maritime sectors.

* Lead auditor trained

Person Specifications

* The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate good problem solving skills, and be able to not only put forward ideas but help to put them into place on a practical level.

* Excellent Communication skills

* Knowledge of Environmental standards is essential ISO (phone number removed)

* A strong sense of passion and focus is essential in being able to provide solutions that meet the needs of multiple functions whilst building and enhancing the effectiveness of processes across multiple disciplines and sites.

* Independence of mind and a willingness to robustly challenge are a pre-requisite. Advising on the best use of human, material and information resources in an efficient, effective and safe manner to ensure that the companies schedule and financial requirements are fully met.
