You will be joining a reputable and firmly established, national rail and civil engineering contractor in the Midlands region with a company turnover of circa £250m (Group TO £500m+). As a specialist civil, building, mechanical and electrical renewals and maintenance business recognised on contracts and frameworks across the country, you will become part of a renowned brand name and team giving you the opportunity to grow in conjunction with this ambitious and forward-thinking business. In recent times, the company has used its repute and solid track record in the rail industry to venture into pastures new and break into working with new clients and industries such as the Environment Agency, Highways England and London Underground to name just a few.
About the Job
As the Works Manager you’ll supervise site teams and subcontractors, taking daily toolbox talks and daily briefings. Health and Safety will be a key part to your role, keeping on top of risk assessments, method statements, ensuring the site teams adhere to safety standards. You’ll also be responsible for multiple sites across the railway network with several General Foreman reporting into you. The projects you’ll be working on will rail civils schemes at a lower value (up to £1m) but at a higher turnover. You can expect to work on stations, bridges, embankments, line side civils, piling, waterproofing, grit blasting and paint jobs.

The Ideal candidate
You’re the Works Manager I am looking for if you have experience in rail. Due to the high turnover of work, you’ll need to have experience in a rail project environment. Being from a main contractor background you will also understand the importance of maintaining good relationships with people on and off site. You will be well versed in managing groups of people and won’t shy away from deadlines. Essentially, if you’re a people person with a strong health and safety background, I want to hear from you!
You’ll need to have main contractor experience with rail experience either recently or from the last few years. Ticket wise, you will have CSCS, PTS, and SMST/SSSTS. As stated earlier you can either be a Senior General Foreman or currently working as a Works Manager, the key thing we need is multiple years in a supervisory role.
Salary is between £48,000-£50,000 dependant on experience. Package includes 25 days holiday plus bank, car or car allowance, pension, and health care.
