Education Team Leader - Spider are advertising on behalf of an environmental charity based on the outskirts of Bury St Edmunds, who are looking for an experienced Education Team Leader to join their Environmental Education department working at various locations within Suffolk.

Due to an increase in the activity within the environmental education work our client is seeking experienced Education Team Leaders who will engage mainly with participants from marginalised and disadvantaged groups, supporting them towards varying goals, using nature and the environment as the medium, building health, hope and happiness through the power of nature. The charity values staff from a wide variety of backgrounds and would especially welcome applicants from a mental health, school, or SEND background with environmental/ conservation experience.

As the Education Team Leader you will be working predominantly in woodlands, as well as, wild spaces parks and schools. Participants from diverse backgrounds are given the opportunity to improve their well-being and, if they aspire to; learn practical skills and gain knowledge about the environment they are working in.

A typical day can include enabling people to do fire lighting and management, cooking on a fire and using greenwood tools – if you feel you have the passion or skills to support this then we would love to hear from you. Other key duties include:

  • Planning and facilitating effective delivery engagement to marginalised and disadvantaged adults and young people in the natural environment
  • Motivate and engage participants in group activities
  • Support other delivery staff to meet the shared outcomes and provide feedback on participants progression
  • Help develop a wide range of programmes that support people and communities by engaging them in health and wellbeing activities, environmental conservation and woodland management skills and knowledge leading to qualifications for some.
  • Effectively report back to track attendance, progress and outcomes
  • Taking a lead role on specific subjects within the delivery team
  • Mentoring and contributing to the training of other delivery staff
  • Produce health and safety plans as well as inform of any safeguarding concerns, adhering to company policies and procedures

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Experience of working with special interest groups, which may include vulnerable and young adults and with people who communicate through challenging behaviours
  • Understanding of environmental, conservation or woodland management (L3/4 desirable) or in a related area of study.
  • A working knowledge of Forest School delivery is desirable but not essential (L3 desirable)
  • PTLLS, CTTLLS or DTLLS qualification (desirable)
  • Experience of developing and delivering learning and development programmes against specific qualifications
  • Experience of partnership with excellent interpersonal skills and the skills required to work with the groups
  • Proven general ICT skills
  • Health and Safety/First Aid trained
  • Ability to inspire personal development through confidence, encouraging to take ownership of setting themselves challenges and aspire to do better
  • Ability to work as part of the Delivery Team
  • Understanding of the importance of observation & recording within a learning environment
  • A full, clean driving license is essential, as will need to travel throughout their designated county (mileage rate will be payable for the business use of the post holder’s private car)

This Education Team Leader position is a full time position and on offer is a salary of £20,000 - £26,000 (depending on experience), 25 days holiday plus bank holidays (with up to three additional efficiency days at Christmas).

As the post will involve contact with children and vulnerable adults, a satisfactory enhanced   Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required in the event of a successful application.
