Job Description: Our rapidly expanding client, a successful engineering business, has a new requirement for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join their team. You will be tasked with the full design process for new products from concept designs to detailed manufacturing drawings. You will also be responsible for detailing manufacturing and assembly procedures and all mathematical calculations that are required in order to do so.

Key Tasks/Objectives
• Manage end to end design of new products
• Understand existing product range and identify key improvement areas
• Design products in 3D CAD for the UK and European markets
• Programme CNC machines
• Produce detailed engineering/manufacturing drawings with Bills of Materials
• Develop working relationships with customers and suppliers
• Manage product specification within internal MRP software
• Produce Standard Operating Procedures to detail manufacturing and assembly methods
• Produce documentation and drawings for patent and design right applications
• Provide general technical expertise to assist company growth, e.g. Specifying new machines, new tools, designing assembly jigs, new computer software, workshop computer access, new factory design
• Produce technical documents, reports and presentations for internal and external use

Your responsibilities will include all aspects of design and manufacture of the entire company product range

Essential Skills:
• Hold a relevant engineering degree preferably in Mechanical Engineering, preferably from a Russell Group University
• Strong experience using 3D CAD software (Ideally Solidworks)

Other Preferable Skills include:
• Full lifecycle design experience - concept design, 2D/3D modelling, engineering drawings and designing for manufacture as well as maintenance and design improvement considerations
• Experience with use of ERP and/or MRP systems i.e. SAGE, Oracle, Progress Plus or others
• Proven Project Management skills and experience
• Proficient IT skills with strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• General business acumen
• Experience of working in an ISO 9001 accredited Engineering company
• Project Management qualifications i.e. Prince 2, PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt or other
• Experience of working with sheet metal, extruded aluminium and machined products
• Experience of working with cable assemblies, hydraulics, and pneumatics
• Experience of working with injection moulded and 3D printed components
• Experience of working to produce CNC machine programs
• Lean Manufacturing Experience i.e. 5S or Six Sigma
• Experience with Continuous Improvement systems and techniques

The salary range is very competetive and will be dependent on your level of experience but is expected to be between £35,000 and £55,000. The Vacancy

This role will form a critical part of the Industrial Coating operation, based primarily from a workshop in Grantham, with travel to sub-contractors, client sites and projects to oversee the quality of Structural steel coating. You will be responsible for providing quality support, inspections, specifications and paperwork for industrial coatings for a range of clients and industries.

Reporting into the Technical manager for Coatings, duties will include -

Conduct quality control audits at sub-contract treatment facilities.
Conduct coatings inspections on / off-site.

Report any issues and anomalies to the Construction Site Manager and Senior Coatings Inspector as soon as identified.
Monitor and ensure procedures are adhered to for all activities of site painting operatives on agreed sites.
Ensuring that subcontract painters are appropriately trained and competent to carry out the tasks required.
To ensure all painting work is carried out in accordance with the agreed site specific method statement.
To communicate regularly with all Construction and Coatings management and operational staff to ensure problems are reported & resolved.
Produce detailed site inspection reports and pass to the Site / Facility Manager copied to the Technical Manager.
Assist the Site Painting Contractors in resolving problem areas, to help ensure the project runs smoothly.
Ensure you and other site painting operatives in your area are fully equipped with the correct tools and products to do their job.
Responsible for implementing Company Health & Safety Policy in relation to the site procedures and works areas for which he or she operates.

Ensure all Coatings tasks are assessed for risk and a safe system of work is in place prior to commencing work.
To be the ‘first line of defence’ against inefficient or unsafe practices.
Production of ITPs and method statements to cover coatings activities
Conduct technical training for internal and external customer
Offer advice to internal and external customers relating to coating specifications and selection
Perform technical presentations to internal and external customers

Required skills:

IOSH Managing safety
5 years’ experience in the coatings or related industries
Proven coatings competency skills and certification (Icorr/Nace)
A good understanding of coating industry specifications
A good understanding of all quality and process standards
A good understanding of the use of coating inspection equipment
Knowledge of coating application equipment
Ability to work unsupervised and possess a logical and thorough approach to all aspects of H&S and production
Able to organise department activities to allow maintenance to carry out PPM
A good Health and Safety awareness and experience
Good knowledge of PPM systems and report generation
HNC (ideally) in related subject
Prepared to travel and stay away when needed.
