Volunteers needed in Southampton for COVID19 Social Isolation Support

Southampton Coronavirus Mutual Aid Group (SCMAG), are urgently seeking volunteers to support the isolated and vulnerable in our community. We are a group of local people who are working to provide community aid right where it is needed during this pandemic.

In a short amount of time SCMAG have developed into a network over 5,000 residents, 1,500+ WhatsApp group members set up for each of the city's wards (regions of Southampton including Bargate, Bassett, Bevois, Bitterne, Coxford, Freemantle, Harefiled, Millbrook, Peartree, Portswood, Redbridge, Shirley, Sholing, Swaything and Woolston) and a support hotline operated by volunteers. We are now approved and supported by local charities, Southampton City Council and NHS Solent Trust.

Every day, amazing, ordinary residents of this city offer to help with:

shopping runs
prescription collections
responding to our messages in their wards' WhatsApp groups
providing expert guidance and supportVolunteers are also required to help with safeguarding, administration and technical functions of the collective, roles include:

Being part of the group's safeguarding efforts to help volunteers and those being aided - this is ideally suited to those with extensive safeguarding experience, through working in social work, adult care or similar.
Administering WhatsApp channels to help organise volunteers (must have a current DBS)
Supporting technical systems (telephony etc.)
Answering the hotline and administering requests to relevant wards (must have current DBS)It is now becoming clear that this pandemic is only going to get worse before getting better. With daily announcements of high death tolls and extreme quarantine measures, we need, now more than ever, more of you to join us in helping those in need across our city.

We desperately need more people to join these groups and to offer a little of their time to help people who are often some of the most vulnerable to coronavirus. We have a need for those with a background in any form of Social Care.

The many messages of thanks we receive from people who have been helped by these little acts of kindness and charity continue to motivate us and we hope you will join the fight to provide food and essential medicines to those who need it.

If you can support, please apply to this advert and I will contact you with more information on how to join a relevant local Whatsapp group.

Thank you.
